About Lake Whitney
Lake Whitney is located in Central Texas on the main stem of the
Brazos River and contains the boarder between Hill and Bosque counties. The lake covers an area of about 37 square miles with
approximately 225 miles of shoreline. The primary purpose of the lake is flood
control. Other purposes of the lake include water conservation and the
production of hydroelectric power. It is located approximately 30 miles
north of Waco, and 73 miles south of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.
Lake Whitney offers some of the best outdoor recreation in Texas. Whether
you are looking for a day of relaxation, a weekend getaway, or an "out of
the mainstream" vacation spot, Lake Whitney is the place! There are 10
Corps of Engineers parks, one State Park, and four additional parks
managed by Hill County or private individuals to meet your recreational
needs. The clear water, scenic bluffs, a relatively mild climate, and
excellent fishing, swimming, and boating opportunities attract
approximately two million visitors each year.
